Daniel M. Harris, M.Ed.
Daniel Harris is a gifted Positive Design Coach who facilitates higher levels of personal motivation, growth commitment, achievement, and optimal performance in sport, business, and life. He has a master of education in educational, school and counseling psychology with an emphasis in positive coaching. His breadth of experience in educational, business, and sports environments give him a unique set of skills relevant to supporting growth in daily living.
Daniel has over 20 years of experience as the Director of Diversity and Multicultural Education at John Burroughs School. He has served as a trustee at Community School, a contributor to both the Independent Schools of the Central States (ISACS) Equity committee and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) advisory think tank on diversity (Call to Action). He has provided numerous other consultations with schools, organizations and community initiatives both regionally and nationally. He was a recent contributor to the NAIS publication, Diversity Work In Independent Schools: The Practice and The Practitioner. Daniel is also a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) which assesses intercultural competence - the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.
For over a decade Daniel also served as a site director for Aim High St. Louis, a tuition-free personal and academic enrichment program for motivated middle school students, most of whom came from challenging circumstances or environments. He also has facilitated and hosted several programs and workshops for educators and community members throughout the St. Louis region and nation, including The Equity Exchange - a think tank of private and public educatiors and professionals from across the nation exploring advanced principles and researc related to systemic change towards educational equity in all educational environments.
As the Head Track & Field Coach at John Burroughs School, Daniel has been honored as a Missouri Track Coach of the Year 3 times by the MTCCCA and 1 time by the USTFCCCA. He has produced state qualifying student-athletes in every track & field season he has coached. He has led 205 individual/relay qualifiers to the state track & field championships across 16 of the 18 offered events, the majority earning all-state honors (40 individual/15 relays boys, 37 individual/15 relays girls) including 19 individual event champions and 8 relay champions (8 individual titles/3 relays—girls, 11 individual titles/5 relays—boys). Between the boys and girls teams, the program has produce 3 team state championship, 6 state finishes in the top four, 9 district championships and numerous meet and invitational titles. Burroughs now boasts many of the individual and relay performances that rank among the top fifty in Missouri class 2 & 3 history. Developing and encouraging leaders is one of his greatest passions. He is a “train smarter” coach who always pushes his staff to incorporate the latest sport science theories and methods in their coaching.
